Pokemon Go April 2020 Field Research Tasks List

April is officially here, and that means Pokemon Go developer Niantic has once again refreshed the game's Field Research list. While many of April's Field Research tasks are the same as March's, most offer new rewards, and you won't find many tasks that require you to hatch eggs (which is helpful as many part of the world are under lockdown due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic).

Unlike the more story-focused Special Research quests, Field Research tasks are distributed via PokeStops. You'll receive a random task when you spin the Photo Disc, and each one you complete will net you rewards, which can range from helpful items like Berries to encounters with certain Pokemon.

On top of that, the first Field Research task you complete each day will earn you a stamp. If you collect seven stamps, you'll achieve what's called a Research Breakthrough, which will net you additional rewards as well as an encounter with a special Pokemon. April's Research Breakthrough reward is the rare Alolan Exeggutor; you'll get a chance to catch the Pokemon each time you achieve a Research Breakthrough this month.

As previously mentioned, the Field Research tasks you receive from PokeStops will be randomly drawn from a larger pool. You can see the full list of April's Field Research tasks, as compiled by The Silph Road, below.

In addition to these tasks, Niantic is offering a handful of Field Research quests that tie into Pokemon Go's April Fools' event, which runs from April 1-7. These can lead to encounters with Sudowoodo, Croagunk, and the debuting Gen 5 Pokemon Stunfisk. Niantic has also outlined some other Pokemon Go events happening in April.

Watch Dr. Pimple Popper Catch a 'Pokemon' Lipoma

In a new Instagram video, Dr. Pimple Popper turns Pokemon trainer to remove lipomas.

Dermatologist Dr. Sandra Lee, MD, jokes that the fatty bits are shaped like little Pokemon.

She has to pop multiple growths from beneath the skin in order to "catch 'em all."

In one of her latest Instagram uploads, Dr. Pimple Popper is at it again removing lipomas from a patients arm. However, according to the TLC star who's real name is Dr. Sandra Lee, these baby lipomas look just enough like oddly-shaped creature to turn her from a dermatologist into a Pokemon trainer. Because she's got to "catch" all these growths.

The short Instagram video is a small snippet of a larger video uploaded to her exclusive, members-only platform, but the popping action is still in full force. Dr. Lee must remove a multitude of small lipomas (fatty gr owths beneath the skin) from her patient's forearm. In the footage, the good doctor has marked several removal sites for squeezes and made a single incision already. Meticulously, she begins to squeeze and maneuver the fatty growth until it emerges in a cloud-like shape that, according to Dr. Lee, resembles a Pokemon. She sets out to catch 'em all.

While many of Dr. Lee's short Instagram clips feature just a single pop, her Pokemon-themed squeezes give fans plenty of bursting material. Like a Pokemon trainer for lipomas, Dr. Lee squeezes all of her patients growths free, securing in one in their own pokeball. Okay, so she doesn't put them in pokeballs, but she does catch 'em all.

How useful is this week's Spotlight Hour?

Sadly Purrloin is only really useful if Liepard is missing from your Pokédex or if you want to get the Delinquent badge up to gold rank by catching 200 dark-type Pokémon. This cat inspired Pokémon just isn't strong enough to do any real damage in any of the Go Battle League, raids or from either attacking or defending Gyms.

What is useful about this event, however, is the double catch XP. Simply by catching as many Pokémon as you can see will net you a great amount of XP, which you can increase further by using a Lucky Egg.

Just make sure you stock up on Poké Balls and leave a good amount of home in your storage before the event begins!

If you're planning on taking part in a Spotlight Hour, then there's a couple of ways you can prepare for the event.

The first is to ensure that you have enough Poké Balls and berries. You only have an hour to catch as many of the chosen Pokémon as possible - you don't want to waste it spinning PokéStops.

The second is to ensure that you have space left in your Pokémon Storage Box. Just like with items, you don't want to waste some of the Spotlight Hour transferring unwanted Pokémon, unless the current bonus is double transfer candy.

Thirdly, it's worth checking to see if you have any spare lures. Using a lure will increase the amount of Pokémon you encounter in the wild for half an hour, so, if you use one during the Spotlight Hour, it should also help you encounter more of the mystery Pokémon.

Finally, since Mystery Bonus Hour has now been merged with this event it's a good idea, depending on the bonus, to use a spare Lucky Egg during this hour. This will further increase the XP bonus you receive, which is a great advantage if you're trying to climb the level ranks of Pokémon Go quickly.

If the bonus supplies double Stardust, however, then it's definitely worth using any Star Pieces you might have. Like with the Lucky Egg, this will serve to only increase the amount of Stardust you receive and, since it's one of the most important resources in the game, increasing your Stardust bounty will only help you in your Pokémon Go journey.

Pokémon Go in 2020 continues to add new features, such the arrival of the Go Battle League - which is currently highlighting the Ultra League - and soon, Clone Pokémon. We've also recently had the Buddy Adventure feature, which introduces a variety of perks - including finding Souvenirs - as well as a new trade evolution feature. 2019 saw the release of the first Gen 5 Pokémon, along with new regional exclusive Pokémon, Egg charts, and the introduction of the Unova Stone. Pokemon Go also sees regular events - including weekly Spotlight Hour evenings, monthly Field Research rewards and Pokémon Go Community Day, plus a new Giovanni counters quest - the latest being The Shadowy Threat Grows. There is also the gradual arrival of new Promo Codes to redeem, too.

A French rolling news channel was forced to apologise on Saturday after one of its reporters was heard to whisper "they are burying the Pokemons" during coverage of China's day of mourning for coronavirus victims.

BFMTV and its journalist Emmanuel Lechypre were lambasted as racist and "shockingly insensitive" on social media after the business reporter made the comment over live footage of the three-minute silence observed across China. Some 3,300 people have died in the pandemic in China, which first appeared there in December, according to official figures.

Lechypre later apologised, saying that he did not know his microphone was turned on.

"I allowed myself to say something totally inappropriate, thinking that the microphones were off. I am very sorry." The channel's boss Marc-Olivier Fogiel also apologised to viewers, although it remains unclear whether Lechypre will be sanctioned.

Many on social media called for his sacking, with others pointing out that Pokemon characters are in fact Japanese.

The Chinese homage was led by President Xi Jinping, with the entire country coming to a halt as cars, trains and ships sounded their horns, and air-raid sirens wailed.

Beijing said the tribute was a chance to mourn virus "martyrs"- an honorific title bestowed by the government this week on 14 medical workers who died fighting the outbreak -- including the doctor who was punished by officials for raising the alarm.

The COVID-19 epidemic began in China and has gone on to infect at least 1.1 million people worldwide, bringing the global economy to a shuddering halt. The country now appears to be over the worst of the outbreak.

Pokemon Go spring 2020 event bringing flower hat Pikachu and shiny Exeggcute next week

The Pokemon Go spring 2020 event is still scheduled to kick off next week on April 9 despite challenges caused by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. 

The spring event will run from 8am local time on April 9 through 10pm local time on April 16. During that time, Exeggcute, Chansey, Mareep, Marill, and Torchic will appear more frequently, and Shiny Exeggcute will also appear on rare occasions. In addition, flower crown Buneary and flower hat Pikachu will spawn in the wild along with their Shiny versions. 

Flower crown Pichu and Togepi will also hatch from 2km eggs during the spring event, along with normal versions of Happiny, Munchlax, Tyrogue, Chingling, and Riolu. To help players hatch these Pokemon, all eggs gained during the event will be of the 2km variety. On top of that, as part of Pokemon Go's ongoing efforts to make playing alone (and, often, from home) more enjoyable, all incubated eggs will hatch at twice their normal rate. 

Players will receive double hatch candy throughout the event, and Lucky Eggs will last for a full hour rather than 30 minutes. To polish things off, event-exclusive Field Research challenges will lead to Alolan Exeggutor, Azumarill, and Audino. 

Pokemon Go now allows players to raid from home.

Pokemon GO is fun again, thanks to COVID-19

During the outbreak of COVID-19, novel coronavirus, the global pandemic, and the quarantine therein, Niantic's made Pokemon GO fun again. At the start, the game held great potential. It was the closest a gamer could get to the feeling of finding, capturing, and battling Pokemon in the real world. Then it got complicated. Now, here amid massive changes made by its creator to make the game playable during quarantine, Pokemon GO's become fun once again.

I quit a while ago

If we take a peek back to September of 2017, we find an article entitled Pokemon GO just committed a cardinal sin, so I quit. Back then I was dismayed to find that Niantic was ramping up efforts to earn ever-increasing amounts of revenue.

But I came back, from time to time. Given my chosen profession, it only seemed natural to check in every once in a while. It still seemed sorta fun, but getting up and out seemed like more of a chore than it was worth.

The fun part of Pokemon GO, at the start, was the walking around and the tracking of the Pokemon. I liked to feeling that certain goals could only be met if I literally moved myself to specific locations in my city, and beyond. But it got complicated – and it got repetitive.

Why it's fun again

The features of the game that I enjoyed at inception became too much work, in my mind. It felt like I wasn't accomplishing anything when I had to walk around town to capture Pokemon and spin Pokestops to collect Pokeballs.

Here during global pandemic for COVID-19, the elements that I found too labor-intensive have become my favorite parts of the game. Niantic's updates for coronavirus made a bunch of changes that allow the game to be more social without the need for me to leave my home… but now I can't help but feel the need to leave my home, because I'm part of this global quarantine.

Pokemon GO still works with GPS-centric features, and gives rewards (of sorts) for walking around. I live in a city that's fairly spread out, where the population isn't particularly dense, so I'm able to walk around and play Pokemon GO without any sort of major risk of spreading disease – so long as I stay outdoors and remain more than 26 feet away from all people at all times.*

Pokemon GO is, once again, a game in which I can get exercise and have fun semi-socially, and I STILL don't need to physically interact with other people to do it! I enjoy playing Pokemon GO again, and by the looks of the charts, I'm not the only one who feels this way.

*Actually, it's safer to just stay home, regardless of how dense the population is around my home city. But given Niantic's latest changes to Pokemon GO, that shouldn't be much of an issue anyway. Now I'm just walking back and forth across the living room instead!

New Pokemon Sword And Shield Isle Of Armor Expansion Details Revealed

Nintendo capped off its recent Nintendo Direct Mini presentation with some new information about Pokemon Sword and Shield. In particular, the company revealed more details about the games' first expansion, Isle of Armor, which is currently slated to arrive this June.

Isle of Armor is set on the eponymous island, which lies off the coast of the Galar region. The isle is home to a Pokemon dojo where aspiring trainers learn under the tutelage of Mustard, the longest-reigning Pokemon Champion in Galar's history and Leon's former mentor.

When you arrive at the dojo, you're gifted the Legendary Pokemon Kubfu from Mustard himself. As part of your training, you will eventually be able to challenge the Towers of Two Fists--the Tower of Darkness and the Tower of Waters. You can only challenge one of the towers, however, and the one you choose will influence how Kubfu evolves.

If you challenge the Tower of Darkness, Kubfu will evolve into Urshifu Single Strike Style, a Fighting/Dark Pokemon; if you complete the Tower of Waters, Kubfu will evolve into Urshifu Rapid Strike Style, and its typing will be Fighting/Water.

Additionally, the evolved form of your starter Pokemon in Sword and Shield--Rillaboom, Cinderace, or Inteleon--will be able to gain a Gigantamax form through the Isle of Armor. Each of these will have a special Gigantamax move. Rillaboom is able to use G-Max Drum Solo; Cinderace can unleash G-Max Fireball; and Inteleon fires off G-Max Hydro Snipe. Each of these attacks is stronger than typical Dynamax moves and ignores the opponent Pokemon's abilities.

The Isle of Armor expansion also introduces new outfits, hairstyles, and customization options for your League Card. If you purchase the Expansion Pass before August 31, you'll also get another free bonus: clothing items for your trainer based on Leon's cap and tights.

The Isle of Armor is slated to launch by the end of June. However, Nintendo noted that any release dates announced during the presentation could be subject to change due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

In other Pokemon news, a new Max Raid event has begun in Sword and Shield. Pokemon Sword players are more likely to encounter Gigantamax versions of Copperajah and Duraludon in Max Raids, while Shield players are more likely to find Gigantamax Charizard and Garbodor.
