Pokemon Go: Armored Mewtwo And Clone Pokemon Are Coming For Pokemon Day Event

February 27 is Pokemon Day, the anniversary of Pokemon Red and Green's release in Japan, and Pokemon Go is commemorating the occasion with a special in-game event. This year's Pokemon Day celebration runs from February 25 to March 2, and it brings back a special Legendary and introduces new kinds of Pokemon to the game.

To coincide with the Netflix release of the latest Pokemon movie, Mewtwo Strikes Back: Evolution, Armored Mewtwo will return to five-star Raid Battles during this year's Pokemon Day event. This time, the Legendary will know the Psychic-type Charged attack Psystrike.

In another tie-in with the movie, Clone Pokemon will make their debut in Go, marking the first time these monsters have ever appeared in a Pokemon video game. You'll be able to encounter Clone versions of Venusaur, Charizard, Blastoise, and other Pokemon in four-star Raids, while Clone Pikachu may photobomb Go Snapshots you take during the event.

Additionally, a variety of festive Pokemon will be available throughout the event. Party hat-wearing versions of Pikachu and Eevee will appear in the wild, while party hat Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle may hatch from 7 km eggs. Not only that, but there's a chance you may find Shiny versions of these Pokemon.

Finally, before the Pokemon Day celebration ends, Niantic will host a special Raid Day on March 1 from 2-5 PM local time. During the event, party hat-wearing versions of Nidorino and Gengar--the two Pokemon that famously squared off in Pokemon Red and Green's opening movie--will appear in Raids, and these will likewise have a chance of being Shiny. You can read more about the Pokemon Day celebration on the official Pokemon Go website.

Niantic has a ton of other events lined up for Pokemon Go this month, including February's Community Day, which will feature Rhyhorn. A new Legendary Pokemon, Tornadus, has also begun appearing in Raids, and there's a new batch of Field Research tasks to complete in the game.

GameSpot may get a commission from retail offers.

'Pokémon Go' Players Vote Rhyhorn for February's Community Day Spotlight

Niantic took a different approach to deciding the next Community Day spotlight Pokémon in Pokémon Go. The company let the players choose in a special vote over the weekend' and Rhyhorn came out the winner.

Rhyhorn was introduced in the popular mobile game when it released in 2017, but the Ground and Rock-type Pokémon is finally getting some much needed love.

When the next Pokémon Go Community Day event begins on February 27, Shiny Rhyhorn will make its debut in the mobile game. Shiny Rhyhorn is one of the most recognizable variants in Pokémon. Rhyhorn transforms from its gray coloring to a bright orangey-brown.

Players will be able to recognize Shiny Rhyhorn when they encounter one in the wild after tapping on the Pokémon in the overworld. Trainers can also look for the shiny symbol next to Rhyhorn's name if they can't recognize the rare variant.

Another new addition is the attack Rock Wrecker. Rhyperior's signature move will make its Pokémon Go debut during the February Community Day event. Evolving a Rhydon—Rhyhorn's evolution—into Rhyperior will have it learn Rock Wrecker as an exclusive charged attack.

This will be the only chance to have your Rhyperior learn Rock Wrecker, so get your Rhyhorn ready during the event time. It should be noted that a Rhyhorn caught before the Community Day event can learn Rock Wrecker upon evolving into Rhyperior as long as it's done during the event.

Pokémon Go players had to select between Rhyhorn and three other Pokémon for February's Community Day.

According to the official Pokémon Go blog, Vulpix, Dratini and Machop were the other choices. Here's what the other Pokémon would have received if they won the voting:

  • Vulpix: Vulpix as originally discovered in the Kanto region will be appearing in the wild and in Eggs. Alolan Vulpix will be appearing in Field Research and Raid Battles. Evolve Vulpix or Alolan Vulpix into Ninetales or Alolan Ninetales for the Charged Attack Weather Ball. Ninetales will learn Fire-type Weather Ball, and Alolan Ninetales will learn Ice-type Weather Ball—attacks previously exclusive to Castform. Shiny Vulpix as originally discovered in the Kanto region will become available for the first time in Pokémon Go.
  • Machop: Evolve Machop into Machamp for the exclusive attack Payback. This Dark-type Charged Attack will give Machamp good coverage to deal with Psychic- and Ghost-type Pokémon that might otherwise give it trouble.
  • Dratini: Evolve Dratini into Dragonite for the Charged Attack Superpower. This powerful Fighting-type attack is a recent addition to Pokémon Go and could be a strategic option for Dragonite. For example, it could help Dragonite against Ice- and Rock-type Pokémon that would normally have an advantage over it. Superpower could also help Dragonite deal with Steel-type Pokémon that are weak to Fighting-type attacks.

‘Pokémon GO’ Limited Research: How To Evolve Minccino Into Cinccino

    Cinccino in the Pokemon anime

    Credit: Bulbapedia

It’s Limited Research day here in Pokémon GO. If you’re just joining us, Limited Research day is a little like Community Day in that in takes place during a three-hour window on a single day, and it’s designed to get everyone out and playing at the same time. Unlike Community Day, however, the Pokémon don’t just spawn. Instead, you get special research tasks from each Pokéstop that reward you with an special Pokémon encounter. Today’s creature is a charming little Unova chinchilla named Mincinno that evolves into Mincinno, also available in shiny.

If you want to evolve Mincinno, first you’ll need candies, but you knew that. Getting them is fairly straightforward on a research day, because you just need to finish 15 or so tasks without pinaps and 7 with using a pinap berry on every catch. Once you get that, however, you’re not done. Mincinno, like several other Gen 5 Pokémon, will require an Unova stone to evolve.

If you don’t have an Unova stone ready to go, they’re a bit of a pain to acquire. One of the main sources is field research breakthroughs: complete seven days of field research tasks and you’ll have a chance at getting one. That will take a second, so if you need one quicker you’ll want to build a rocket radar and defeat a Team Rocket Leaderâ€"Or Giovanni himselfâ€"for a shot at one of them. It shouldn’t be all that difficult, but it’s a little less straightforward than grinding out Sinnoh Stones.

Currently, you only need five Unova stones to complete the available Gen 5 Pokédex: one for Pansear, Panpour, Pansage, Lapmpent and now Mincinno. So even if you don’t have one for the event today, it shouldn’t be all that prohibitive to build your collection and get everything you need. Get some extra, however, because I bet we’ll get more in the coming months.

If you’re lucky, you can grab yourself both a shiny Minccino and a shiny Chincinno: if rates are anything like recent research days it shouldn’t be all that hard: I’m still sitting on a massive stack of shiny Clamperl and both of its evolutions from that day. Happy hunting.

Pokémon: The First Movie remake on Netflix once again gives your favorite monsters a new look

a little girl sitting in a toy doll

Netflix is releasing a new, CGI animated version of the very first Pokémon movie. Dubbed Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back—Evolution, the remake of the 1998 film follows Ash and friends as they get wrapped up in a legendary pokémon's quest for revenge.

Much like the original film, Evolution is the story of human-made pokémon Mewtwo. The story is set within the context of the popular animated show, including Ash, Pikachu, and Team Rocket, and it involves a lot of clones. The first trailer for the movie retreads familiar ground — from Mewtwo's creation to the trainer competition that draws Ash and pals into the conflict in the first place.

For fans of the original, the new CGI style might be.. well, let's just say a little jarring. The hyper-realistic pokémon of Detective Pikachu (in all their computer-generated, sometimes horrifying glory) have disappeared. Instead, Evolution takes a turn to Pixar meets Johnny Jonny Yes Papa; Misty by way of a llama.

Mewtwo Strikes Back—Evolution will arrive on Netflix on February 27th.

New Pokemon Sword And Shield Freebies And Max Raid Event Now Live

A new Max Raid event is underway in Pokemon Sword and Shield. While Gigantamax Alcremie appearance rates have returned to normal, you're now more likely to come across its pre-evolved form, Milcery, in Max Raids for a limited time, and this one is special for a few reasons.

Milcery that you encounter in Max Raids may have the Gigantamax factor, meaning that they'll evolve into an Alcremie that's capable of Gigantamaxing. On top of that, two new types of Sweets--Ribbon and Star--have been added to Sword and Shield as rewards for completing Milcery Raids, which means you can evolve the Pokemon into two new variants of Alcremie.

The Milcery Max Raid event will run until February 16. Meanwhile, the other Max Raid events are scheduled to end on February 7. Until that date, Sword players are more likely to encounter Gigantamax Coalossal and Flapple in Max Raids, while Shield players will have a better chance of finding Gigantamax Lapras and Appletun.

In addition to the new Max Raid event, a couple of new freebies also available in Pokemon Sword and Shield. First, until March 31, you can claim 10 Heal Balls via Mystery Gift. Any Pokemon that's captured in these balls will automatically be fully healed afterward. To claim the present, select Mystery Gift from the menu screen and enter the code G1GAGRANF1NALE.

On top of that, developer Game Freak is giving out another 20 free Battle Points to commemorate the start of Sword and Shield's third Ranked Battle season. To claim the Battle Points, go into Mystery Gift and input the code SUPEREFF1CACE. The points will be up for grabs until March 30.

In other Sword and Shield news, The Pokemon Company will reveal a brand-new Mythical Pokemon for the games on February 27. Two expansions for Sword and Shield, dubbed Isle of Armor and Crown Tundra, will also be released this year, while the cloud storage service Pokemon Home is set to launch sometime in February. 'Pokémon Go' Minccino Event: Start Time, Research Task and Everything You Need to Know

Pokémon Go players are in the midst of the Lunar New Year event featuring Darumaka and a load of red-colored Pokémon, but there's one more part to the event can take advantage of when it goes live.

Minccino, one of the signature Pokémon of the Unova region will make its Pokémon Go debut on Sunday in a special Limited Research event.

The Normal-type Pokémon will not just make its debut, but it'll appear alongside its Shiny variant. Also, as 2020 is the Year of the Rat in the Chinese Lunar calendar, more Pokémon based on rodents will begin to appear more frequently.

If you're looking to take advantage of the upcoming event, here's all the information you need.

POKEMON GO MINCCINO EVENT START TIME

The Pokémon Go Minccino event begins Sunday, February 2 from 2-5 p.m. local time.

    SHINY MINCCINO

Pokémon Go players not only have a chance at catching a Minccino, but also its Shiny variant.

Shiny Minccino is vastly different from its original form. Minccino is light gray, but a Shiny Minccino changes to a bright pink in color. It'll be easy to determine the difference between a Shiny and normal Minccino.

As with other Shiny Pokémon in the popular mobile game, trainers will need to encounter a Pokémon to determine if they've found its rare variant or not. The rate at which Shiny Pokémon appear is increased during the event times.

    MINCCINO RESEARCH TASKS

When the event begins in Pokémon Go, Professor Willow will talk to the player and explain how Minccino have been appearing. You'll be tasked with completing certain objectives during the three-hour event window.

The tasks have yet to be revealed, but we'll update this section as soon as we learn more.

    IN-GAME BONUSES

Pokémon Go players will receive the Minccino Limited Research tasks and a chance at finding a Shiny Minccino. Trainers will also see Minccino hatch more frequently from 5 km Eggs obtained during the three-hour window.

If you don't hatch one during that time don't fret, as Minccino will continue to hatch from 5 km Eggs moving forward.

Minccino won't be the only rodent Pokémon found more frequently in Pokémon Go during the event. Other mouse and rodent Pokémon from previous generations will pop up more often. Here are the confirmed list of Pokémon that trainers can expect to see on Sunday:

  • Rattata
  • Raticate
  • Pikachu
  • Sandshrew
  • Nidoran (female)
  • Nidoran (male)
  • Sentret
  • Marill
  • Zigzagoon
  • Plusle
  • Minun
  • Bidoof
  • Patrat

'Pokémon Go' Announces February Events & Additions Including Tornadus and Shiny Lickitung

With February about to begin, Niantic confirmed what Pokémon Go players can expect in the second month of 2020.

According to the official Pokémon Go blog, the popular mobile game will bring a ton of new events, which will see the debuts of 'mon from different regions and more Shiny Pokémon.

There's a lot to go through, and here's a rundown of every event and Pokémon coming to Pokémon Go in February 2020.

    SHADOW RAIKOU

Similar to December and January, Pokémon Go players will have a chance to catch another Shadow Legendary Pokémon.

By completing the Team GO Rocket Special Research Shadow Raikou will be available to catch. Defeat the Team GO Rocket leaders and Giovanni to rescue Raikou by the end of February.

    FEBRUARY SPECIAL RESEARCH BREAKTHROUGH

In February, collecting seven stamps will give trainers a new Pokémon from the Unova region. Woobat, the Psychic and Flying-type Pokémon, will be the special Pokémon encounter between February 1 at 4 p.m. EST and March 1 at 4 p.m. EST.

Trainers can encounter and catch Woobat even if some of the stamps were collected in January as long as the final stamp is done starting February 1.

    TORNADUS RAIDS

Pokémon Go is getting a brand new Legendary Raid in February. Tornadus, the first of the Djinn trio of the Unova region will arrive Tuesday, February 4 starting at 4 p.m. EST and ending Tuesday, February 25 at 4 p.m. in five-star raids.

Tornadus is the first pure Flying-type Pokémon and is weak to Ice, Electric and Rock-type attacks so train up your team in preparation.

    POKEMON GO SINNOH REGION CELEBRATION

Unova region Pokémon may be prevalent in Pokémon Go at the moment, but Niantic is set to celebrate Generation 4 in a Sinnoh region Celebration event.

From Friday, February 7 at 8 a.m. to Monday, February 10 at 10 p.m. local time Pokémon originally appearing in the Sinnoh region will be more prevalent in the overworld and in raids.

Also, Pokémon from the Sinnoh region will hatch more often from 7km Eggs. Some examples of Pokémon hating from these Eggs include: Budew, Combee, Bronzor, Gible, Riolu, Hippopotas, and Mantyke.

Event-specific Field Research can be collected during the event with Sinnoh Pokémon and Sinnoh Stones being the rewards for completing them.

The debut of Shiny Riolu and Shiny Hippopotas is the draw of this event so trainers will want to get outside and start hatching as many Eggs as possible.

    POKEMON GO VALENTINE'S DAY EVENT

Another weekend event celebrates Valentine's Day in Pokémon Go.

From Friday, February 14 at 8 a.m. to Monday, February 17 at 10 p.m. local time pink Pokémon will appear more often in the wild, raids, Eggs and Field Research encounters. This event also marks the debuts of Audino and Alomomola for trainers to add to their Pokédex.

Lures will last six hours and trainers will earn double catch candy during the event.

Also, a special Lickitung Raid Day will take place Saturday, February 15 from 2-5 p.m. local time. These Lickitung will have a chance at being Shiny, marking this variant's debut. Lickitung caught in Raids will also know the Normal-type attack, Body Slam.

    NEW FEATURES

There are also two new features being added to Pokémon Go. Pokémon Spotlight Hour will feature a surprise Pokémon. Niantic won't confirm what Pokémon will appear, but trainers can expect it in the wild on Tuesday, February 4 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. local time.

Mystery Bonus Hour will feature a mystery bonus and will go live in the app on Thursday, February 6 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. local time.
