Pokemon Sword & Shield's Gigantamax Toxtricity Event Ends Soon

Pokemon Sword and Shield's latest Max Raid event is coming to an end this week. The newly introduced Gigantamax Toxtricity will leave the games at 4:59 PM PT / 7:59 PM ET on Sunday, March 8, making this your last chance to catch it.

Until that time, Gigantamax Toxtricity will appear in Max Raid dens around the Wild Area. The Gigantamax Pokemon is available in both Sword and Shield, but which form it takes differs depending on which version you're playing. Sword players will encounter Amped Form Toxtricity, while Shield players will find Low Key Form. Both variants have the same base stats, but each learns some different attacks.

When Gigantamaxed, Toxtricity's Electric attacks will become the G-Max move Stun Shock. In addition to dealing damage, this attack will also either paralyze or poison all Pokemon on the opponent's side of the field.

Also leaving Max Raids on March 8 are Gigantamax versions of Kingler, Grimmsnarl, Orbeetle, and Hatterene. These Gigantamax Pokemon will remain in the game, but their spawn rates will return to normal, which means they'll be significantly rarer to encounter. You can see which Pokemon are available in each game in our Max Raid event roundup.

In other news, The Pokemon Company recently unveiled a new Mythical Pokemon for Sword and Shield: Zarude. The monster will star in the upcoming film Pokemon the Movie: Coco, which premieres in Japan this summer. You can also still grab a few freebies in Sword and Shield.

5 best Pokemon apps (not games) for Android

Bulbapedia best pokemon apps for Android

Bulbapedia best pokemon apps for AndroidPokemon revolves heavily around its own game play. There are digital games, the physical card game, and even mobile games. However, there are actually some decent Pokemon apps out there. These apps help you keep track of your physical or digital Pokemon collection,  show you guides for the various digital games, and otherwise help you interact with the game at large. There aren't a ton of them but there are some decent options. Here are the best Pokemon apps (not games) for Android! Please note, none of these are games. We have a separate list for Pokemon games on Android. There is also a separate list available for Pokemon Go IV calculators so we won't cover those here either.
  • Bulbapedia
  • dataDex
  • Pokemon Home
  • Reddit (and YouTube)
  • TCG Hub
  • Bonus: 1000+ Poke Wallpapers
  • More posts about Pokemon! Bulbapedia

Price: Free / Up to $6.99

Bulbapedia is one of the biggest and most successful websites in the Pokemon fandom. It has a metric ton of information about each game, each game's Pokemon, and various guides and how-to articles. It boasts a collection of 31,000 entries across all games, various walkthroughs and guides, and it works offline. Some other features include a multi-tab mode for viewing multiple guides at once and a history function to quickly recall something you viewed. It's free to use on its own but you can optionally pay to remove ads and get other features. It's not bad aside from some intrusive ads and some freezing issues.

Price: Free / Up to $2.99

dataDex is among the most competent Pokedex apps on Android. It has everything you'd expect from a Pokedex app. There is detailed information about each Pokemon for every game in the series including the latest four for the Nintendo Switch (Let's Go Eevee, Let's Go Pikachu, Sword, and Shield). In addition, the app can tell you where Pokemon are available for capture, what moves they can all learn, a list of all items from each game, and more. The pro version even has a team builder option. The pro version isn't expensive and it's free if you use Google Play Pass.

    dataDex screenshotPokemon Home

Price: Free trial / $2.99 per month / $15.99 per year

Pokemon Home is probably the best for storing your actual Pokemon. It lets you upload Pokemon from most of the recent games and lets you transfer them to other games. There are some limitations. For instance, Sword and Shield don't have support for all Pokemon. However, it's a great way to manage your collection otherwise. The app also lets you trade with folks, keep track of the national Pokedex, and even receive Mystery Gifts. There are some limitations that we hope the developers address, but it's a good start for how new it is at the time of this writing.

    Pokemon Home screenshot

    Pokemon Home screenshotReddit

Price: Free / $3.99 per month / $29.99 per year

Reddit is an excellent source of information for Pokemon fans. There are subreddits for the show, the card game, the digital games, the mobile games, and everything between. You can even find forums for wallpapers and other side stuff if you want. There are some bad eggs like most public spaces on the Internet but these are wholly unavoidable. Just try to deal with them as best as you can. In any case, it's a good place to ask questions, search for info, and get advice about builds, teams, and strategies. The app is free (with ads) or there is a premium subscription option that adds a few extra features. You can also find a lot of walkthroughs, guide videos, and let's play videos on YouTube and Twitch.

    Price: Free with in-app purchases

TCG Hub is an app for Pokemon card collectors. The Pokemon Company has an official app for this kind of stuff, but it's honestly not that good. TCG Hub lets you scan your cards in and keep track of them. You can compare your collection to the national Pokedex to see the gaps in your collection. Additionally, the app lets you sync your collection to the cloud, create a wishlist for cards you want, simulate trades, and you can even join the app's Discord server. All the features are available in the free version and the pro version is entirely optional.

TCG Hub screenshotBonus: 1000+ Poke Wallpapers by Fans

    Price: Free

1000+ Poke Wallpapers by Fans is, well, a wallpaper app. It features about 1,000 Pokemon-inspired wallpapers from fan submissions and other sources. The app tries to give credit whenever it can and some wallpapers are specific only to this app. Some other features include the ability to auto-change wallpapers, the ability to save wallpapers, and more. Some of the designs are legitimately good and most of them should work on most devices. There are even some AMOLED-friendly ones. The app is entirely free with ads. If this one isn't doing it for you, there are at least a dozen others on the Play Store and probably a couple of subreddits for it.

Pokemon Go March 2020 Events Include New And Returning Legendaries, New Shiny Pokemon, And Team Rocket

March has officially begun, and it's shaping up to be another busy month for Pokemon Go. Developer Niantic has outlined some of the events it has in store for the hit Pokemon mobile game this month, and they include the debut of a new Gen 5 Legendary, the return of the Psychic Spectacular, a Team Rocket takeover, and much more.

    Shadow Entei

A new Team Rocket Special Research questline called The Shadowy Threat Grows is now live if you've completed the most recent set. As usual, the questline culminates in a battle with Team Rocket leader Giovanni, and if you can defeat him, you'll earn a chance to rescue another Shadow Legendary Pokemon: Entei. The Shadowy Threat Grows will be available until the end of the month.

    March Field Research

In addition to a new Team Rocket Special Research quest, Niantic has rolled out a new batch of Field Research tasks, along with a new Research Breakthrough reward. Each time you achieve a Research Breakthrough this month, you'll encounter the rare Gen 5 Pokemon Ferroseed. You'll also get bonus Stardust as an additional reward.

    Thundurus

Beginning at 1 PM PT / 4 PM ET on March 2, the Bolt Strike Pokemon Thundurus will make its debut in five-star Raid Battles. Like Tornadus before it, Thundurus is a member of the Legendary weather trio from Pokemon Black and White. It's a dual Electric/Flying type, so you'll want to fill your team with Rock and Ice Pokemon before challenging it.

    Team Go Rocket Takeover Event

A Team Rocket takeover event will kick off at 8 AM local time on Friday, March 6. All weekend long, Dark and Poison Pokemon will appear in the wild much more frequently than normal, including the rare Absol. You'll also have your first chance to encounter a Shiny Skorupi during the event.

As part of the event, there will be a surge in Team Rocket activity on Saturday, March 7. From 2-5 PM local time, more PokeStops than usual will be taken over by Team Rocket Grunts. You'll also be more likely to encounter Team Rocket leaders Sierra, Cliff, Arlo, and Giovanni during the event, and there's a chance they'll have Shiny Shadow Pokemon. You'll earn twice the normal amount of Stardust when you defeat the Team Rocket leaders as well.

Each weekend in March, Niantic will bring a Legendary Pokemon back to five-star Raids for a limited time. Not only will these Legendaries possibly be Shiny, some may also know special event-exclusive attacks. Each Legendary Raid weekend kicks off at 8 AM local time on Friday and ends at 10 PM local time on Monday. You can see the Legendary Pokemon and when they'll be available below:

  • March 6-9: Darkrai
  • March 13-16: Altered Forme Giratina
  • March 20-23: Cobalion (knows Sacred Sword)
  • March 27-30: Lugia (knows Aeroblast)
  • Mysterious Weekend Event

From March 20-23, Niantic will be holding a "mysterious" weekend event. Throughout the weekend, Normal-, Fire-, Water-, Electric-, and Ice-type Pokemon will appear in the wild more often than normal. Additionally, you'll be able to find Nincada in the wild or hatch it from 5 km eggs, and there's a chance it'll be Shiny.

Shelmet and Karrablast will likewise be hatching more frequently from 5 km eggs throughout the event, and Bug or Steel Pokemon will appear as Raid bosses. You'll also earn twice the usual amount of Stardust for catching or hatching Pokemon, and there will be a new Special Research story quest to go along with the weekend event. Niantic says it will share more details about that in the future.

    Psychic Spectacular Event

Capping off the month is the returning Psychic Spectacular event, which will take place from March 27-30. Throughout that time, Psychic Pokemon will appear in the wild more frequently than normal. You'll also have your first chance to encounter a few new Psychic types originally from Pokemon Black and White, including Solosis and Gothita. If you're lucky, you may find a Shiny Baltoy as well. Finally, special Field Research tasks will be available throughout the event. You can read more about Pokemon Go's March events on the game's official website.

'Pokémon Go' Raid Update: Thundurus Counters & Every New Change

One of the many updates in Pokémon Go in the month of March is the arrival of Thundurus.

Thundurus is one of the Djinns from the Unova region alongside Tornadus, who was included in Level 5 Raids in February, and Landorus, which has yet to make its Pokémon Go debut.

As is the case with many arrivals in Pokémon Go Raids, the rest of the bosses shift to coincide with it. Thundurus' debut in Pokémon Go marks the beginning of the mobile game's massive slate of March updates and it will keep trainers busy until the first event this weekend.

Read more about Pokémon Go's plans for March here.

If you want to battle and catch Thundurus in Pokémon Go, continue reading on for our guide to which Pokémon to bring into battle and what bosses are appearing in the various Raids.

    POKÉMON GO THUNDURUS COUNTERS

Thundurus is an Electric and Flying-type Pokémon making it weak to Rock and Ice-type attacks. This Legendary also resists Flying, Fighting, Bug, Grass, and Steel-type attacks so players will want to avoid bringing Pokémon that have those moves.

Luckily for trainers, there are plenty of powerful Ice and Rock-type Pokémon already in the game. Here are some Pokémon that players should bring into battle against Thundurus:

  • Rampardos with Smackdown and Rock Slide
  • Rampardos with Smackdown and Rock Wrecker
  • Mamoswine with Powder Snow and Avalanche
  • Terrakion with Smackdown and Rock Slide
  • Glaceon with Frost Breath and Avalanche
  • Tyranitar with Smackdown and Stone Edge
  • Weavile with Ice Shard and Avalanche
  • Gigalith with Smackdown and Rock Slide
  • POKÉMON GO RAID UPDATE

Thundurus' arrival in Pokémon Go has shifted what Pokémon appear in Raid battles. To help trainers collect a team of six to take on the Legendary, most of the Raids in this latest update include Ice and Rock-type Pokémon.

If you're looking for a Pokémon to counter Thundurus, we recommend going after Tyranitar, Sneasel and Boldore as they deal the most damage when fully evolved.

Some Raids continue to host the usual Raid Pokémon like Alolan Marowak and Mawile.

Here's the list of Raids in Pokémon Go in conjunction with Thundurus' arrival.

    Level 1
  • Cubchoo
  • Cranidos
  • Klink
  • Timburr
  • Dwebble
  • Level 2
  • Graveler
  • Alolan Exeggutor
  • Sneasel
  • Mawile
  • Boldore
  • Level 3
  • Jynx
  • Abomasnow
  • Alolan Raichu
  • Piloswine
  • Aerodactyl
  • Level 4
  • Golem
  • Alolan Marowak
  • Tyranitar
  • Aggron
  • Level 5

What do you think of Thundurus as a new Legendary in Pokémon Go? Which Pokémon team are you bringing into battle? Let us know in the comments section.

Pokemon Go's February Field Research Tasks List [Update]

[Update] February has ended, but a new set of Field Research tasks and rewards are now available in Pokemon Go. You can see March's updated Field Research task list here. March also features a new Research Breakthrough reward: an encounter with the new Gen 5 Pokemon Ferroseed. The original story follows.

February is almost over, and Pokemon Go is wrapping up the month with a Pokemon Day event, which brings back Armored Mewtwo and party hat-wearing Pokemon. You also still have a few days left to complete February's Field Research tasks. As usual, you can obtain the tasks by spinning the Photo Disc at PokeStops. Completing them will earn you rewards, which can range from helpful items like Berries and Poke Balls to encounters with certain Pokemon.

On top of those rewards, the first Field Research task you complete each day will also net you a stamp. Each time you collect seven stamps, you'll achieve a Research Breakthrough, which will earn you additional rewards, including an encounter with a special Pokemon. Last month's Research Breakthrough reward was Lapras that knew Ice Beam or Ice Shard, but this month, you'll have a chance to catch a new Gen 5 Pokemon instead: Woobat.

The Field Research tasks you obtain will be randomly drawn from a larger pool, so there's no telling which ones you'll receive. Up to three Field Research tasks can be active at a time, but you can discard any that may be giving you trouble and receive a different task from another PokeStop. You can see the updated list of Pokemon Go's Field Research tasks--along with the possible rewards they dole out--below, courtesy of The Silph Road.

February is shaping up to be a particularly busy month for Pokemon Go. Niantic has a ton of events lined up for this month, including a Sinnoh celebration that will make it easier to find Gen 4 Pokemon and a new Team Rocket Special Research quest that will lead to a chance to catch Shadow Raikou. This month will also bring a few more Gen 5 Pokemon to the game, including the Legendary Tornadus.

February's Community Day, meanwhile, is set for Saturday, February 22. This time around, Niantic let players vote on what the featured Pokemon is. The results of the voting will be announced on February 3. [Update: You can view the Pokemon Community Day winner now.]

Pokemon Go Thundurus Guide: Best Counters And Battling Tips

A new Legendary Pokemon has arrived in Pokemon Go. Thundurus, one of the three Legendary Forces of Nature from the Unova region in Pokemon Black and White, is now appearing in five-star Raid Battles, making this your first chance to capture one in Niantic's mobile game.

Thundurus will only be available in Raid Battles for a limited time, so you'll need to act quickly if you're hoping to add one to your collection. If you need help capturing the Bolt Strike Pokemon before it leaves the game, we've rounded up some tips on how to battle and capture Thundurus below.

No Caption Provided © Provided by Gamespot No Caption Provided

Thundurus is a dual Electric/Flying type, which means it's only susceptible to two types of Pokemon: Rock and Ice. Rampardos, Tyranitar, and Rhyperior are all great choices to use when battling Thundurus; the latter in particular will be very helpful if you learned Rock Wrecker during February's Community Day. Similarly, the Legendary Rock Pokemon Terrakion is another great counter if you were able to catch one while it was in Raids earlier this year.

As for Ice Pokemon, Mamoswine and Glaceon will be your best options. The former in particular is a great choice thanks to its high HP and Ground typing, which will reduce the damage of Thundurus's Electric attacks. If you don't yet have a Glaceon, you can quickly add one to your team by using the Eevee naming trick.

There are a few other things to keep in mind when facing Thundurus. While Ground-type attacks typically deal super-effective damage against Electric Pokemon, Thundurus is also part-Flying, which mitigates that advantage. Thundurus may also know the Fighting move Brick Break, which will deal super-effective damage against Rock Pokemon. Tyranitar is particularly susceptible to this move as it's a Rock/Dark type, both of which are weak to Fighting.

‘Pokémon GO’ Gengar/Nidorino Party Had Raid Day: Start/End Times, Shiny And Counters

    Gengar in Pokemon GO

    Credit: Niantic

Here’s something that I like about Pokémon GO’s upcoming Gengar/Nidorino raid day. No, it’s not that both Pokémon will be wearing party hats, though that’s a nice bonus, particularly with ol’ Gengar, there. It’s that I believe this is the first event of its kind to feature a solo-able raid. That seems to be the idea with having the two of them: people can meet up and team up to take on Gengar, but the solo player can still take advantage of the five free raid passes and take out some Nidorino. I’ll take it: I like doing raids solo, even if I hate waiting for that little timer. Let’s get into times, movesets and counters for this upcoming event.

Start/End Times: The Gengar and Nidorino raid day will run from 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM local time on Sunday, March 1.

Counters: Two Pokémon to worry about this time around, but one of them is super easy.

  • Gengar: Gengar is a Ghost/Poison type, which opens you up to some counters that wouldn’t work if it were a pure Ghost type. Here are some good options:
  • Giratina with Shadow Ball and Shadow Claw
  • Darkrai with Snarl and Shadow Ball
  • Mewtwo with Confusion/Psychic
  • Espeon with Confusion and Future Sight
  • Groudon with Mud Shot and Earthquake
  • Nidorino: This should be no problem for most trainers, but here are some good counters to make things even quicker. Poison typing means a lot of overlap with Gengar:
  • Mewtwo with Confusion and Psychic
  • Espeon with Confusion and Future Sight
  • Giratina with Shadow Claw and Shadow Ball.
  • Shinies: Gengar is very subtle, with a slightly darker purple to distingusih the Shiny:

Nidorino is classy, with a blue, rather than purple, coloring:

It will take some doing to get both of these things shiny, but if you’re a die hard collector this Party Hats aren’t something you can rightly pass up. Gengar could get some play, as well: Lick, in particular, is a very useful move for generating energy. If you lose Psychic and pair it with Shadow Ball, you’ve got an excellent Ghost-type attacker. I always like getting event Pokémon in the mix, so I’ll try and get one of these partying fools to throw at raids.
